Deseret News Columnist Says, "BCS system isn't fair - so what?"

Columnist Lee Benson of the Deseret News says: BCS system isn't fair -- so what?

Mr. Benson's column pokes fun at the unfairness one can find in sports. He does a good job and his column is both entertaining and sad-but-true at the same time. This topic is going to be around for a while, so read his column for a foreshadowing of the BCS supporters argument(s) and why they will fail.

Why are most folks so up-in-arms over the BCS System, the Utah UTES' #2 Ranking when its the only undefeated team this year, and AG Shurtleff announcing that he's launching a probe of the BCS System? Its because Americans love freedom and like to support the underdog -- we also hate unfairness, cheating and greedy people. Oh yeah, most Americans hate lawyers, unless they need a lawyer's services at the particular moment of inquiry.

Here are the Eagle4Justice's comments in response to Mr. Benson's question and column:

The article is entertaining (and revealing) as it pokes fun at all the unfairness associated with sports, whether it be college or professional sports. However, most folks are missing the point that given the present circumstances, the time is right to challenge the BCS system. Those circumstances include an undefeated 13-0 Utah being ranked 2nd behind 13-1 Florida just because the latter team was in the "right" BCS bowl game.

AG Shurtleff happens to be the most public and well-equipped by virtue of his office to advance the challenge. We at the Utah Justice Foundation believe the time for an investigation of the BCS for anti-trust and/or any other violations is now!

Justice for future college teams most deserving of the National Champion Title will be done eventually, and yes it will require the assistance of attorneys.

Finally, thank you Utah UTES for a spectacular season and for providing the "celebrated cause" to justify the war now unleashed on the BCS and its supporters.

Stay tuned for surely there is more to come ...
